Exercise 1 - Part 2
For questions 1-8, think of the best word that fits each gap. Use only one word in each gap. All answers must be in lowercase.
Some of the gaps might have more than 1 answer, in that case, the system will detect it as incorrect, but will provide all the possible answers.
For decades, scientists have been trying to understand how animals share information. While it is true (1) many species use basic sounds to warn of danger, others possess surprisingly complex communication systems. Dolphins, for instance, use unique signature whistles to identify (2) to one another, acting much like human names. In (3) words, they have a sense of individual identity. However, we are still far (4) fully deciphering these underwater conversations. It could well (5) that they are discussing complex social relationships rather than just basic needs. Despite (6) gaps in our knowledge, recent studies using artificial intelligence have broken new ground. This technology has shown, if (7) else, that animal communication is far more sophisticated than we previously assumed. Ultimately, understanding these signals is of great importance, (8) it helps us protect endangered species more effectively.
