The Power of Music

Music has a profound effect on our emotions, yet the reasons behind this connection remain a subject of debate. Did we evolve to appreciate rhythm and melody (1) order to strengthen social bonds? Although there is no definitive answer, researchers have proposed several fascinating theories. One recent study suggests that listening to music releases dopamine in (2) a way that it triggers an intense feeling of pleasure, similar to eating chocolate. In (3) , music can actively alter our heart rate and blood pressure. It may well (4) that our brains are hardwired to process sound patterns from birth. In spite of (5) biological links, individual preferences vary wildly. We know that if a person is isolated (6) certain cultural influences, their musical taste changes drastically. This research shows, if (7) else, that environment plays a huge role. Ultimately, music is by (8) means a simple luxury; it is a fundamental part of the human experience.
