Linguaskill Business Listening Section Format and Overview

The Listening module of Linguaskill Business tests your ability to process spoken professional English in real time through an adaptive testing engine. Because the software evaluates your level on the fly, answering correctly prompts harder tasks, while mistakes pull you back to easier recordings until the system fixes your precise score.

Expect to spend roughly 40 minutes on this module, though maximum allowable test length stretches to 59 minutes if the computer needs extra questions to settle on a level.

You will face a combination of these core listening tasks:

  • One-question multiple choice: Listen to a short audio clip and select the correct answer from three options.
  • Two-question multiple choice: Listen to a short dialogue or monologue and answer two sequential multiple-choice questions following the order of information in the recording.
  • Five-question multiple choice: Listen to a longer business presentation, interview, or discussion and answer five sequential multiple-choice questions.
  • Sentence completion: Listen to a monologue and type up to three words into each of five missing gaps in a summary sheet.
  • One-task multiple matching: Listen to five short monologues from different speakers and match each speaker to one option from a list of eight choices.
  • Two-task multiple matching: Listen to three monologues from three distinct speakers and answer two separate questions per speaker, selecting from five available options for each task.

Multiple matching tasks are notorious for throwing distractors at you. Speakers love to mention a key term from option A before immediately correcting themselves or pivoting to option C, catching out candidates who lock in their answers too early.

Sentence completion tasks require accurate spelling. Getting the word right conceptually while making a typo on a basic word still costs you the mark.

Focus on reading the prompts during the allocated preparation time before each track starts. Missing the context before the audio plays makes catching specific details significantly harder.
